Music Literacy Benchmarks
Each choir student will be required to complete lessons in music literacy using the website www.musictheory.net. These lessons will be discussed in class but the levels may be completed at any time if the student wish to advance ahead of where their classmates are. The lessons are paired with drill activities that will test recognition and speed. There is no reason a student should not receive a 100% as you may make as an attempts as you’d like.
Instructions
1. Click on the level tabs to the left. Use the Level Benchmarks as a practice area to prepare for your timed trial. These links will take you to http://musictheory.net where your music literacy will be tested.
2. During your practice time, you may attempt the level as many times as necessary. Just reset the score each time you would like a timed trial.
3. When you are ready to complete your timed trial, click on the level that you want to attempt. Don't forget to reset the score if you have been practicing!
4. When you have finished, click the "gear" in the upper right hand corner, then click SHOW PROGRESS REPORT. The clock will continue to run until you click this button!
5. Type your Name and click SIGN. This generates a unique verification code for your score.
6. Copy (ctrl + C) the verification code that appears in your progress report. Click on SUBMISSION FORM to the left. Fill in the Name, Choir, and Level (Ex. 1.5, 2.7, etc) fields. Check the box indicating whether you passed the level or were attempting it, and hit SUBMIT. If the form does not submit properly, simply e-mail the verification code to Mr. Tapson at [email protected]. (Please write your name and level in the subject of your email.).
7. In order to mark "Passed," you must achieve 100% accuracy, no skipped questions, and finish in 1 minute or less the amount of questions required by each level. If you don't achieve this, you should mark "Attempted."
8. DO NOT SUBMIT ANYTHING LESS THAN 100%, UNLESS IT IS THE END OF THE SEMESTER, AND THIS IS YOUR BEST WORK. You should always strive for a perfect score, and should only submit anything less when you have tried your absolute best.
9. You will need headphones for the Ear Training portion, or can use speakers in a quiet area. Be aware of this as deadlines are approaching.
10. The Terminology and Notation Quizzes for each level must be completed before the end of the semester. This quiz will count as part of your final grade for the class, and is necessary for advancement in the program.
